Andersonville, located in a half square mile section in the southwest corner of Edgewater, is an old Swedish neighborhood first settled in the mid 19th century. Although most of the Swedes are now long gone, Andersonville has managed to retain some of its original ethnic flavor.

Andersonville is home to the Swedish American Museum, located At 5211 North Clark Street, and one of the best bakeries in the city, The Swedish Bakery, located at 5348 North Clark Street. The neighborhood has evolved into an ethnic mosaic easily visible by the restaurants ranging from Old Swedish to Asian, Mexican and beyond.

Andersonville used to be a neighborhood where finding a great bargain was easy to come by; however, the secret is out about this delightful neighborhood. Housing in Andersonville consists mainly of single family homes and attractive two and three flats. While less expensive than its pricey neighbors to the south, Andersonville is no longer he delightful bargain it once was. The new construction craze has also found its way into Andersonville in a big way, and beautiful new buildings replete with every conceivable modern amenity can be found on nearly every street.
